Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is one of the most important
surgical procedures in the history of medicine. It has been the most
common adult cardiac surgical procedure, but its future is increasingly
threatened by percutaneous alternative procedures. However, CABG
is evolving and remains the most durable means of revascularization
for coronary artery disease. It prolongs lives and provides more
symptomatic relief. The incidence of coronary artery disease (CAD)
has increased in developing countries.
