Authorities in Colorado say they have arrested a guy on suspicion of committing hate crimes in California after two teens of Asian origin were subjected to racist and homophobic insults while filming a TikTok video at an In-N-Out Burger.
The event happened on December 24 in the city of San Ramon, which is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. After learning that the video had gone viral online, Police Chief Denton Carlson used to social media to issue a call for information on the victims and the culprit.
What Happened
On Christmas Eve, 40-year-old Denver resident Jordan Krah yelled homophobic and racial epithets at Arine Kim and Elliot Ha as they recorded themselves sampling dishes at a restaurant in San Ramon, California. Both Kim and Ha are originally from Asia.
On Monday, police found Krah, who was wanted for two charges of hate crime, and he was detained and sent to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Kim claims in the video that Krah was observing her and Ha's In-N-Out dining experience from outside the restaurant. She said she and Ha were afraid to leave the restaurant for fear that Krah would shoot them. They waited until the restaurant closed and then requested a worker to accompany them to their car.
Eventually, that evening, the footage went live. A few minutes into the three-minute clip, Krah can be heard informing Ha and Kim that he'd meet them outside.
Denton Carlson, chief of police in San Ramon, saw the clip. Carlson, according to the police, utilized social media to positively identify Krah after he was spotted in a silver Mustang with Florida plates after a similar occurrence with another family on Christmas Day.
There has been a rise in racism and hate crimes against Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) groups since the COVID-19 epidemic began.
It has been estimated that over 10,900 acts of hatred against AAPI persons will be recorded to the advocacy group Stop AAPI Hate between March 19, 2020 and December 31, 2021. Most of the occurrences included verbal abuse, and over half of all hate crimes were committed in public places.
