It's his first trip outside of the country since February when Russia invaded. Given the security risks, it's unlikely that details of his trip will be made public, but he was seen at a Polish train station earlier.
The US has confirmed that it will give Ukraine a Patriot missile system, which will greatly improve the country's ability to defend itself from air attacks.

During the war, the US has been the most important ally of Ukraine. It has given $50 billion (£41 billion) in humanitarian, financial, and security aid, which is more than any other country.
Since the war began, Mr. Zelensky has talked to Western leaders on the phone often. But by inviting him to the White House, President Biden will show that the U.S. is ready to help the country for "as long as it takes," as has been said many times.

In a briefing before Mr. Zelensky's visit, the White House confirmed that Ukraine will get a new package of security aid worth nearly $2 billion. Officials here say that the attacks are meant to break the morale of the Ukrainian people. As a result, millions of people are without power and heat as temperatures drop below freezing across the country. President Zelensky, on the other hand, is not likely to get the longer-range weapons he wants to hit Russian targets farther away from the front lines.
In his speech to Congress on Wednesday, the leader of Ukraine is likely to talk about the attacks on infrastructure to ask for more weapons. There, he will find some Republicans who have complained about the amount of US support, even though Congress is thinking about giving an extra $50 billion in aid. Ukraine's defense is said to cost about $5 billion (£4.1 billion) a month.
The trip to Washington comes a day after President Zelensky, dressed in khaki military gear, was in Bakhmut, an eastern Ukrainian city on the front lines where some of the war's fiercest battles have taken place. The White House said that he met with troops and gave awards to soldiers. The visit was a big sign of defiance and showed support for Ukrainian troops on the front lines.
In a moment that was caught on camera, soldiers gave Mr. Zelensky a Ukrainian flag with their names on it and asked him to give it to President Biden and the US Congress. President Zelensky has promised to take back all occupied land, including areas that were taken over before February. Before the visit, in his usual evening speech, he said that Ukraine would do "everything possible and impossible, expected and unexpected" to get "the results that all Ukrainians expect."
Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, the US military says at least 100,000 Russian and 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or hurt, along with about 40,000 civilians.
